My Eureka Moment Week # 2

I was recently in a car accident and my car got totalled on Wednesday. So on Thursday I went car shopping with my cousin. I had my Eurka moment when the car sales man saw that we were two young females and just assumed we know NOTHING about cars. I was test driving the same car that my cousin had so I knew a lof of features about the care already. Also my cousin is very into cars so she knows about engines and horsepower and stuff and told me all the information about the car we were driving. So we both felt that the guy was totally trying to take advantage of us and would not make a deal with the price or anything. So today I went back with my father and was talking to the same guy about the same car. And this time he decided to take some money off of the price. And I competely feel that was because I had a man with me and the car salesman felt that he could not get as much over on my father. It's shocking to me that just because my dad was there we would be able to pay a lower price, and when it was two females he would not do anything for us.

  1. And, this scenario continues when you have to go to a service station to get it fixed! Should more women become car mechanics to change this stereotype!

  2. Natalie-
I totally understand what you mean! In some cases I can tell that people may not take me as seriously simply because I'm young, female, and I also try to be nice, which cannot be helpful when you want respect and the best treatment. In more than one case my father and mother have offered to take over car related tasks because I have received ill treatment from mechanics. Recently I have become more assertive with mechanics, asked more questions, and demanded more answers simply because I don't have the money to dish out for things that don't need to be done. I think by only asserting our authority will we be respected. It takes time, and a focus on self and an ability to forget the notion that we have to make everyone happy/comfortable, but it will happen!
